Job description:
The Children’s Center of Clackamas County is seeking a part-time (0.4 – 0.5 FTE) Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner to work as a medical examiner. Medical Examiners provide medical assessments for children suspected to be victims of abuse and participate in a multidisciplinary team approach to the evaluation of suspected child abuse.

The Children’s Center of Clackamas County is the child abuse assessment center for children in Clackamas County. Children are referred to the Children’s Center from law enforcement, child protective services and medical providers because of suspected child abuse. Assessments at the Children’s Center include a complete medical exam with documentation of all signs of abuse, a video-taped interview with a specially trained child interviewer and referral to on-going services including mental health services and family support.

FUNTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Clinical:
• Participate in orientation and complete initial comprehensive training.
• Work as part of multi-disciplinary team, in accordance with Children’s Center protocols and scope of practice requirements.
• Perform sensitive and thorough medical examinations of children for whom there are concerns of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and/or neglect, including colposcopy and team participation during child interviews.
• Dictate, review and sign evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Obtain and present information in a neutral manner that meets legal requirements for evidence and meets social service needs for protection and treatment.
General:
• Consult with other medical professionals in the community regarding specific cases of alleged abuse or provide expertise on general abuse concerns.
• Participate in on-going CME relevant to child abuse evaluations, including specific training as requested.
• Testify in court, as necessary.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Must possess appropriate professional degree and be licensed in the State of Oregon.
• At least three years clinical experience examining and treating pediatric patients.
• Understanding of complex family dynamics.
• Ability to work effectively in complicated and/or crisis situations.
• Ability and willingness to work as a team member with the Children’s Center staff and staff from partnering agencies.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screen as condition of employment.
