Job description:
Responsible for the general health of all clients and smooth operation of psychiatric and medical clinics, ensuring that the state health division, DHS, and organizational policies and requirements are met. Provides in-service health care training for staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide supervision to the Health Services Clinic staff and the SAIP nursing staff;
2. Provide medical care for all clients, ensuring that state health requirement are met;
3. Function as a liaison to designated members of the medical community and hospitals;
4. Maintain accurate medical records for each client including, immunization records in accordance with Oregon State law assessment, medical treatment plans, progress notes and 90 day outcomes when indicated;
5. Conduct or coordinate employee in-service training for medication administration and guidelines for infection control;
6. Monitor the administration of medicines to clients;
7. Work with the Nursing Director and the Medical Director in developing policies and procedures related to Health Services;
8. Participate in the organizations TQM/CQI process, serving on the Program, Quality, and Leadership Councils, and chair the Infection Control Committee;
9. Ensure the compliance of TFS Health Services with the Joint Commission standards related to Health Services;
10. Monitor and review doctor's medication orders on a regular basis and ensure appropriate, documented dispensing of them. This includes instructing staff regarding the medications being used;
11. Provide or ensure education and counseling to clients about health issues and personal responsibility;
12. Provide nursing assessment upon admission of new client including communicable disease screening, establish an initial medical treatment plan and follow up on health care concerns;
13. Obtain insurance information for clients' families in order to furnish it to medical care providers;
14. Communicate regularly with treatment team members regarding clients' health status to ensure that a healthy environment is maintained;
15. Coordinate, nutrition and pharmacy services;
16. Ensure that community based health care providers are prepared for the special needs of clients by providing information and/or training;
17. Develop, implement and monitor emergency services and protocols for client care;
18. Develop, implement and monitor medication, medical and health policies and procedures;
19. Assess and evaluate trauma and abuse incidents and provide on-call services for medical crisis management;
20. Complete all training required for the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct supervision to assigned staff. Interviews applicants and hires or recommends hiring, depending upon position to fill. Issues verbal and written warnings to assigned staff and recommends additional discipline up to and including termination. Prepares performance evaluations of assigned staff and approves staff requests for time off.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Registered Nurse license.

Experience: Two (2) years supervisory experience and two (2) years experience as pediatric nurse. Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in a child/adolescent psychiatric residential setting.

Job Knowledge: Determines own practices and procedures. Contributes to the development of new concepts. Most work is routine with occasional new tasks involving a high degree of complexity. Operates within established guidelines and/or legal requirements, this position description, professional standards of medical practices, and agency policy. Performs duties with little direction given.
