DIRECTOR, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT/LEVEL 1 TRAUMA

On behalf of our client, we extend an invitation to leaders with demonstrated success in streamlining operations of large Emergency Departments to discuss this unique career advancement opportunity. We seek a high-level ED director who can transform ED services at Holston Valley Medical Center, the flagship hospital of the prestigious Wellmont Health System.

This position carries the responsibility of 24 hour operation of all aspects of ED services including the management and mentoring of 137 total team members (90.8 FTEs). The selected leader will have strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated success in expanding and/or restructuring emergency departmental services to maximize utilization of resources, shorten throughput times, exceed patient expectations and further develop the service line.

This key leader will be well versed in establishing goals and metrics to evaluate performance effectiveness. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting standards and serves as an advocate for quality patient care and excellent patient experience across all units, while maintaining excellent quality outcome scores, as well as patient, staff satisfaction scores and customer service.

This position must establish strong and trusting working relationships with the physician partners, nursing leadership team staff and administration. We seek a leader with a strong personal presence, characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others at all levels of the organization.

The ideal candidate would be an RN with an advanced degree/certification with a minimum of five years of progressive clinical practice experience and increasing responsibilities in a management/leadership and/or consulting capacity. However, non-nursing leaders with clinical competency & demonstrated success in transforming clinical and operations in large ED will also be considered. Qualified candidates must demonstrate leadership in streamlining and administering ED & Trauma operations, employee mentoring and management, financial planning and QA/PI.

Based in Kingsport, TN, Holston Valley Medical Center (HVMC) is a 505-bed hospital with more than 450 physicians and over 2,000 nurses, technicians and support staff. Centers of Excellence include the Christine LaGuardia Phillips Cancer Center, Regional Children’s Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Diabetes Treatment Center, Neuroscience, Outpatient Services, Rehabilitation Services, Women’s Health, and Regional Heart Center.

In 2010, HVMC opened their new $110 million emergency department that features the latest healthcare design and innovations, including a new ICU, new operating suites and expanded emergency and radiology departments.

The new ED encompasses over 29,500 square feet of space for doctors to assist patients including 63 treatment rooms, 21 acute-care specialty areas and a new trauma suite that offers three expansive bays, all designed to accommodate over 110,000 ER visits per year. HVMC utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and expertise of the region’s top trauma physicians, medical teams and caregivers to deliver a complete spectrum of trauma care. HVMC has one of the state’s busiest ER departments, with over 75,000 patients (I/P & O/P) each year.

HVMC is listed among the top-ranked heart surgery programs and is ranked among the Top 50 in Thomson Reuters’ list of Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the United States. CareChex, a well-respected hospital quality rating service, listed HVMC as the best in the nation for carotid artery stenting. HVMC also landed in the top 100 in CareChex rankings for cardiac care, major cardiac surgery, heart attack treatment and coronary bypass surgery. HVMC also rates in the top 10 percent for pulmonary care, stroke care and trauma.

The Wellmont Health System has been honored repeatedly for their service excellence in serving the Tri-Cities region of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The system is licensed to operate more than 1,300 beds, employs over 6,400 team members, and operates with over $750 million in revenue. The system features 8 hospitals, 35 physician clinics, 1,000 physicians and 170 employed physicians. More than 800 beds are in operation, including acute care, critical care, psychiatric and rehabilitation beds, along with eight hospice beds and 44 long-term care beds.
