Family Planning Clinical Provider
Part-Time 22.5 Hours Per Week
Salary range: $32.91 – 40.00/hour (DOQ)
+ Benefits including PERS


Applications are invited for a Family Planning Clinical Provider, specializing in the health needs of family planning patients. The family planning practitioner provides primary health care in the area of family planning, assuming the responsibility for the initiation and maintenance of patients in the family planning regime. The family planning clinician participates in an interdisciplinary approach to health care, being cognizant of and responsive to the experience of other disciplines and personnel involved with patient services. The family planning clinician may also provide leadership in all aspects of the family planning program. The family planning nurse practitioner collaborates with the health officer and follows protocols signed by a physician and ensures the provision of quality program services to clients served by the agency.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Family Planning Clinical Provider is a clinician, specializing in the health needs of family planning patients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Perform direct patient care duties.
• Perform initial/annual examinations including thyroid palpation, heart and lung screening, breast exam, abdominal palpation, pelvic and vaginal exam, and R/V exam (when indicated).
• Order diagnostic laboratory tests as indicated, interpret results without supervision, including:
o Pap smear,
o GC,
o CTT,
o Herpes,
o Wet mount (see next bullet point),
o Blood drawing,
o Other diagnostic tests as indicated, without supervision.
• Perform moderate complexity testing and must:
o Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results;
o Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples;
o Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
o Follow the laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance;
o Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical consultant, clinical consultant or director, or quality management manager; and
o Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory’s established performance specifications.

• Provide evaluation, problem identification and formulation of treatment plans as medically indicated.
• Administer appropriate methods.
o Insert IUD’s; remove IUD’s.
• Act as resource person for other staff on medical matters; keep informed of current developments in family planning field; may assist in training new staff, students.
• Provide referrals to other agencies and medical resources for evaluation/follow-up or treatment; responsible for follow-up of referrals made.
• Provide follow-up exams, problem revisit exams, and pregnancy assessment.
• Provide evaluation, problem identification and formulation of treatment plans as medically indicated.
• Obtain complete and accurate medical history; promote patient well-being through education.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
EDUCTION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a Master’s degree in area of specialty or national board certification as a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, medical doctor, naturopathic doctor in an area of specialty. At least one year of experience in the field or in a related area, and licensed as a physician assistant, medical doctor, naturopathic doctor . Familiar with a variety of this field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Possesses the experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to multitask. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected for this position.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Clatsop County Public Health Department business and activities on and away from the job. Regular attendance during designated working hours is required.
